Arrival of Princess No 2

For the last few days of May 09, I could feel my baby girl no. 2 moving downwards into my pelvic canal. It was a pregnancy with some slight problems. I had low lying placenta where it was merely 1.7 cm away from the cervix at the end of the first trimester. This and some unknown reasons caused me to have threatened miscarriage. I was hospitalized for 1 month in Jan.
During my last checkup my gynae said," Hmm... The head is very low. You could go into labour anytime." I was moving towards the finishing line.
Finally on 30 May past 12 midnight, my waterbag burst after I barely dozed off. I had dreamt my waterbag burst for a few times already. But this was for real. I woke my hubby and dashed to the toilet. The amniotic fluid just kept flowing. We rushed to the hospital. There were no contractions yet so I could still walk. At the temperature screening counter, another lady was already in pain.
By 1.30 am, I was waiting in the labour ward. Based on my first childbirth experience, my hubby thought it would be long and he was slowly surfing the net.
The contractions slowly built up. I was still deciding whether to take epidural pain relieve or not as the pains were bearable.
By 3 am, the contractions suddenly turned 10 times more painful. I told the ward nurse that I wanted epidural. The nurse quickly gave me the consent form to sign. Then I heard her ask my hubby to clear the computer and stuff away and said patient is in distress. I was grabbing the bedrails and kicking my legs to try to relieve the pain by now. The nurse passed me the ethonox gas to inhale and I lost some consciousness. I was like walking on moon and the sounds around me seems unreal.
For what seems like eternity, I heard again the nurse told my hubby I was going to deliver and the epidural would not be in time. The overhead lights turned on and I opened my eyes and saw my gynae step into the room.
Then there was a sharp pressure at my anal area. My hubby told me, "Can see her head now."
I could not follow any instructions given by the nurse and just followed what my body told me.
I remembered I screamed off my lungs. The ethonox effect made me amnesic and drowsy. Shortly my hubby told me,"The baby is there (on another table where the nurse will observe the baby and take the necessary measurements"
The time was only 3.52 am. It was extremely fast and I could not believe that I did it without epidural!
Later in the morning, my gynae told me I was fantastic and everybody was amazed at my speed.
However because I could not follow the instructions given by the nurse, I pushed too hard and my baby had facial contusions (blue-black around the nose and mouth area).
Princess no. 2 is also slightly smaller than her sister. Considering that I had frequent contractions during pregnancy, it is amazing that she could make it to 38 weeks gestation.
